Opening: Thomas Lauria

April 5, 2017

A graduate of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, the work of Thomas Lauria is fueled by an anticipation of the haptic. The intense paraphilic relationships he has with select materials, scenarios and garments complicate the ways in which he navigates both physical and psychic space. Translated as interactive sculpture, documented performances, writings and prototypes, these complications seek both public accessibility and analysis. Opening: Saturday, April 8th at 7 pm

Conjure: Jason Lee Starin // Sofya Mirvis - Feb. 18th, 6 - 9

February 15, 2017

Kitchen Table Gallery's third and final opening of February is this Saturday - so come out! The artists have already started to work on the show. The opening will feature two artists who create their work by way of very different materials. Read their statements below before coming to the show Saturday to see their work in person.

I can only be as adaptive as my previous life experiences have been acknowledged and utilized. Often that knowledge is inadequate in helping to quantify new phenomena. It is during these transitional moments that I rely on escapist behaviors in order to fill in the gaps of comprehension. This tendency is not always the wisest approach. My perspective becomes skewed, and after a while I have a hard time distinguishing fact from fiction. Things that were once clearly distinguishable now dissolve into each other, losing origin. Realities become blurred as explanations from one rational are mistakenly used in order to make sense of the anomalies in the opposing reality...

Sofya Mirvis

Sofya Mirvis is a mixed media artist living and working in Philadelphia. Her work combines ethereal landscape with elements of surreal collage and a touch of urban aesthetic. Originally from Moscow, Russia, Sofya draws references from Eastern European folklore, Western opulence and the phenomenology of nature.

"In the synthesis of media and subject I create a diverse sensory experience. I want to elevate the sludge of your coffee. I want to deconstruct your elitism"
