The 5th Annual Philadelphia Podcast Festival

May 25, 2017

Philly PodFest is back! And Kitchen Table Gallery is one of the venues for this year's festival. All shows are free so stop by on one of the dates below and hang out for some podcasting. The 5th annual Philadelphia Podcast Festival is a great time to see your favorite shows live and discover new ones. Pick a time to come by and hang out or stay for all the shows below.

Saturday, July 22

3:00pm High-Res - Hi-Res is a one-on-one podcast with creatives in the Philadelphia advertising community about the experiences that have shaped their careers and influence their work. New episodes post on Tuesdays, every two weeks.

4:00pm All My Fantasy Children - Aaron and Jeff take your brilliant character prompts and create a beautiful tabletop game child.

5:00pm Bump and Grind - A bi-weekly discussion about what it takes to be a working class artist. A deep and insightful look into the blood, sweat, and glitter poured into making Pro Wrestling and Burlesque.

6:00pm Overtime Podcast - Two recent college graduates that are fed up with the daily 9 to 5 grind and looking for a way out.

Sunday, July 23

3:00pm Never Forget Radio - A feminist podcast that approaches our post-9/11 era as history, cultural quarry, and ongoing catastrophe.

4:00pm Story Shuffle - The idea for Story Shuffle is a concept made of a dozen existing ideas mashed and tweaked into one. If you’re going to blame anyone, you can blame Christopher Wink, who conceived, organized and hosted the first Story Shuffle on Saturday, May 29, 2010 in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia. The first night’s theme was ‘Beginnings.’

5:00pm Overdue - A podcast about the books you've been meaning to read. Updates Mondays.

6:00pm Mouthful - Mouthful is a new podcast from award-winning journalist Yvonne Latty and Philadelphia Young Playwrights. Each week, we dig into the themes and ideas at play in a dramatic monologue written by a young person. We listen to the monologue performed by a professional actor, talk to the young person about why they wrote it, and then journey out into the community to broaden the conversation. Mouthful places young people at the center of important conversations, adding their voices and perspectives to the discussions that surround our daily lives at home, in the workplace, in the news, and in the community.

7:00pm KTG Talks - KTG Talks is an art podcast about the people who help to make the arts happen. Host Chris O'Rourke brings an outsider's perspective to these intimate conversations with the individuals working and creating in Philadelphia's art scene and around the world. Ok, not "around the world," we're working on that part.

Opening: Thomas Lauria

April 5, 2017

A graduate of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, the work of Thomas Lauria is fueled by an anticipation of the haptic. The intense paraphilic relationships he has with select materials, scenarios and garments complicate the ways in which he navigates both physical and psychic space. Translated as interactive sculpture, documented performances, writings and prototypes, these complications seek both public accessibility and analysis. Opening: Saturday, April 8th at 7 pm

It's no secret that the Philly art scene has never before been as rich with young talent and new art to experience. Attending gallery openings is one of the best ways to meet young and emerging artists and to talk with them about their work. Matthew Lafferty // Clint Colbert Opening Reception - February 11th, 7:00 - 10:00p

February 10, 2017

Kitchen Table Gallery's 2nd of 3 shows for the month of February is featuring two artists, Matthew Lafferty and Clint Colbert. Matthew is an artist working in Brooklyn who studied photography and art history at Ohio University. Clint is a photographer who lives and works in Philly. The show will feature drawings and photography and will run for only this weekend, so don't miss it! Take a look at some of their work below and click on the links above to find out more information about each artist. I've had the opportunity this week to see their work and I'm excited for the show tomorrow. I like what I've seen.

Both artists have an appreciation for the mundane, which they allow to act as a backdrop bringing forth the working elements in their pieces. This is not to say their work is similar in vision, themes, or intentions - just the opposite. I can keep going but it's probably better if you just come out to their show tomorrow night. Looks like its gonna be a beautiful night in Philly for art.
